Actually, the biggest problem with the project is coming up with an enclosure
for it all that the cows won't eat...

Unfortunately, I've had to endure THIS for too long... The hardware is
packaged in a die-cast aluminum box, sealed with Dow-Corning (or was that
Cow-Dorning?) 3140 sealant. The lithium thionyl chloride batteries are housed
in packs made of Schedule 40 PVC, diode isolated and fused at the string and
cell levels. Cabling is prepared with #18 teflon-insulated stranded wire (we
had it on hand, or it'd be smaller) and held together with teflon-fabric
FabriShield. The belt used to secure the instrumentation package to the
animal's torso is fabricated from 1/8" canvas impregnated with rubber --
conveyor belt material. To aid in keeping the belt in position, a "saddle" is
fabricated from medical thermoplastic material, although initial tests
indicate this may be unnecessary. The GPS antenna is placed in a --you'll
love THIS one -- dog-food bowl to protect it from direct impact from
low-hanging branches. The UHF antenna will be fabricated from carpenters'
tape.
Any cow that eats this one deserves it!
Gerry
